Pro Tips:
Flush the System Thoroughly: Always flush out old coolant, debris, and contaminants from the cooling system before installing new components to ensure optimal performance and longevity. If you can access a garden hose, carefully flush water through your vehicle's engine block and radiator! you'd be surprised what comes out!
Use the Correct Coolant: For effective cooling, refill the system with the manufacturer-recommended coolant type and maintain a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water.
Bleed the System: After refilling the coolant mixture, bleed the cooling system to remove trapped air pockets. Raising the front of the vehicle is a common practice to ensure the radiator cap is at the highest point. Free rev the engine to 1500 rpm for a 1-minute interval to help evacuate air from the cooling system.
Engine Cooling Service: We recommend replacing the thermostat, flushing, and refilling the cooling system every 45,000 miles or every 4 years. This helps remove any accumulated debris, contaminants, and old coolant, ensuring the proper functioning of the cooling system. Along with your coolant system service, check coolant expansion tanks, hoses, and fittings.
Coolant Mixture: The coolant-to-water mixture in an engine's cooling system plays a crucial role in regulating the engine's operating temperature. The mixture typically consists of coolant and water. The standard recommended mixture is a 50:50 mix. However, adjusting the ratio as deemed necessary in race applications or hot environments is common. A higher water content enhances the thermal conductivity of the mixture, improving its ability to transfer heat away from the engine components. This can benefit a race application where the engine is subjected to high loads and temperatures. Always consult a professional, as every vehicle will have its own variables.
